South Croydon
We are a small day nursery, registered for 27 children, providing high quality childcare and have been established since 1991. We pride ourselves on our very close relationships with both the parents/carers and the children who attend our nursery.
Situated on the grounds of a school, Little Learners Day Nursery enjoys an environment surrounded by sprawling fields and majestic trees that provide year round interest for everyone attending the nursery.
The building has been extensively refurbished and is divided into three main rooms, which, are used by the babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. It also houses a kitchen where all meals are prepared, a milk kitchen in the baby room, the children's lavatory, a computer area and an office.
-
The baby room accommodates three babies.
-
The toddler room accommodates nine babies/toddlers.
-
The room attended by the older children accommodates fifteen children.
Although there are planned structured and adult-led activities, the time in the nursery is spent learning through play. The social skills of sharing and turn taking flourish here. In each room children have access to a home corner, a book corner, a general play area, a painting area and also an area where children engage in activities, which promote craft, design and technology.
We also have the sand/water tray, which opens up numerous creative avenues where children develop a sense of imagination. Sand/water are two natural materials which most children use to extend their learning experiences.
We have a computer area where all the children can learn the basics of computer technology with the aid of software geared towards interactive exercises. Learning how to use the computer helps promote the understanding of technology as a valuable resource for all pursuits.
Hygiene throughout the nursery, each child has their own toothbrush, toothpaste and flannel with which they learn about hygiene and the care of self. Working closely with parents/carers we can assist and give advice about potty/toilet training.
The Menu the children who attend our nursery enjoy culinary experiences that reflect those of a multi-cultural society. The menus are planned to encourage good eating habits and an awareness of where food comes from. We have a four week rotating menu which offers a wide range of food from various cultures i.e. chicken curry, chow mien, lasagne, fish and boiled rice etc. We supply afternoon tea which consists of sandwiches, croissants, cheese on toast etc. We also provide healthy snacks and drinks throughout the day. We can accommodate children with dietary requirements e.g. vegetarians, dairy intolerance.

Garden outside facilities include a large astro-turfed garden which has a climbing area, a shaded area and a growing area where the children learn about growing fruits, vegetables and flowers. We also have a very large selection of outdoor toys suitable for all ages which consists of slides, bikes, trikes, push alongs, bats, balls, skittles, hoops, stilts etc. We also have a chalkboard and a balancing beam where the children can develop their skills.
Key Person we operate a key person system in the nursery. Your child will be allocated a member of staff who will be responsible for them on a daily basis, this will involve carrying out activities with them, making observations on your child and generally looking after your child's well being. Key persons will be reviewed on a regular basis and changed if necessary.
Day Books Due to paper wastage we only complete written day books on request, however, a member of staff will always discuss with you on collection of your child how your child has been that day.
Working with Parents/Carers we work as closely as possible with parents/carers to make sure that we achieve the best possible care and education for your child. We hold a parents/carers evening twice a year so that we can discuss your child's development, and every 3 months we will invite you in to discuss your childs next steps. We also run several activities a year which include sports day, parents/carers fun evenings and a nursery barbeque etc. We regularly review our practice and send out questionnaires once a year to ensure that we are providing a good service. We welcome parents comments all year round about the service we provide and will look carefully at any suggestions on how we can improve our service.
